Coupons are very sought-after by online purchasers who look for coupon codes that give them a discount before buying products on the Internet. As an affiliate marketer, having these coupon codes on a site or blog is a wonderful promotional opportunity in addition to text links and banners.

Lots of merchants have coupon codes which are only distributed through the affiliate channel. Special occasions like Christmas, Valentine day or Mother's day are opportunities for stores to boost their revenue by bringing more business with coupon codes. Some coupon codes are ongoing with no expiration date and valid store wide or for a selection of products.

A coupon code is a short text usually in capital letters and numbers to draw attention like "XMAS20" or "MOM15OFF". The label of the coupon may help the buyer to understand what the discount is, respectively a 20% discount during Christmas and a 15$ off for mother's day. A short but clear description of the offer with validity dates have to be placed together when posting a coupon code on a website.

Affiliates using coupon codes in their sites certainly have an advantage over those who do not. Every potential buyer is interested to receive a reduction when shopping online and that make these offers convert very well compared to ordinary banners and text links. Regrettably, some merchants do not have any coupon codes available as a marketing tool for their affiliates.

If the store does not have any voucher, this doesn't mean that they will not in the future. As an affiliate, asking them to issue a coupon to help ones promotion efforts is a good idea. If they understand their interest in doing so, they should respond affirmatively to the request, especially if the program is run by a professional affiliate manager.

Various coupons can also be displayed in a niche site to advertize several merchants. If the niche website is about travel or jewelry it is easy to search in one's favorite affiliate network the merchants with coupons for these keywords. The first thing to do would be to sign-up for their affiliate program and the second to use the coupon codes they have issued.

Another way to proceed would be to ask the affiliate manager of the program to issue an exclusive coupon. The intention is to have a coupon code similar to the name of the website and available only on one website. Buyers will not be able to find the same coupon anywhere else and will come back for more.

Some affiliates use a software or script to make coupon websites. These websites can contain thousands of coupons from hundreds of merchants and are very successful. However managing a coupon site with so many offers is quite a lot of work in order to be up to date with the validity of all coupons.
